Vatsalya Mela at Dilli Haat(14th-19th Nov 2012)

The Vatsalya Mela (festival of mother’s love) is organized by the Ministry of Women and Child Development,Government of India every year. This year it will be held between 14th to 19th November  2012 at Dilli Haat, New Delhi. The theme for this year’s mela is “Safety and Protection of Women” and “Child Rights”.

The Vatsalya Mela takes you through the journey of childhood and motherhood and all that is nurturing and empowering, enlightening, enterprising, engaging and entertaining.

The Mela gives you the opportunity to get a glimpse of the policies, schemes, programmes, initiatives and activities of the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India and its organizations. It showcases initiatives and projects of both the government as well as non-governmental organizations in their respective fields.

The Mela presents a combination of, information activities, interaction, cultural programmes, thematic exhibition, display of services of States and products of NGO’s and Partners.

The Mela is a blend of ideas, IEC (Information, Education and Communication) activities, cultural programmes, interaction, thematic exhibitions and display of services and products of states, NGOs and partners.  Entrance to visit Mela at Dilli Haat will be made free by the Government of India to encourage the public.

The NMEW stall at the Mela will showcase the activities of the NMEW, providing information about women’s schemes to the public and creating awareness on women’s issues in India & to highlight the Gender issues with a focus on women and child.

In addition, the National Resource Centre for Women(NRCW) is organising a ‘Naari ki Chaupal’ (Women’s gathering) – a vibrant space outside the NMEW stall where films on gender sensitization will be screened, dance performances by women and girls, street plays and legal literacy quizzes will be held along with discussions on various themes such as the declining sex ratio and sexual harassment of women, etc.

The National Resource Centre for Women will be organizing various cultural activities with the help of various professional agencies that creatively represent the themes, viz., Girl’s Safety, Domestic Violence, Protection of Women, Menstrual Hygiene, Female Feticide, Value of Girl Child, Sanitation through audio- video shows, street plays, game shows, puppetry, discussion, interactive  games, etc. A number of reputed civil society organizations have confirmed to collaborate with us to make Naari Ki Chaupal programme a success.
